Singapore Biennale Artist and Multimedia Visionary.
This event has ended.
In this fireside chat, Singapore-born and Shanghai-based contemporary artist Brandon Tay takes us on a sojourn through his artistic practice, meandering through early influences, anomalous objects, and some of the conceptual underpinnings that inform his work.
How can certain objects, artefacts and events in history—through a combination of fact and fiction—allude us to alternative and speculative trajectories in our historical timeline and an understanding of otherworldly technologies?
In this sharing, the artist will take us through some of his reference materials, recent projects and experimentations, as well as Serpent Vessel, Votive Spiral, and Ophidian Codex, a new and forthcoming installation work to be premiered at the 8th edition of the Singapore Biennial this year.
Taking the conversation further, the session will be moderated by curator Rafi Abdullah.
ABOUT BRANDON TAY
Brandon Tay is a Singapore-born, Shanghai-based artist whose work explores the shifting boundaries between technology, fiction, and material form. Working through sculpture, simulation, and moving image, he creates objects that blur distinctions between system and symbol — between what we know and what we imagine.
Recent works such as Serpent Vessel, Votive Spiral, and Ophidian Codex, commissioned by the Singapore Biennale, frame science as a process that is as subjective and strange as it is rational, inviting us to see technology as a living, speculative system of belief.
ABOUT RAFI ABDULLAH
Rafi Abdullah is a curator and writer working across disciplines traversing contemporary technology and digital cultures. He has written for several artist catalogues and books, as well as for and in journals, platforms, and institutions such as New Art Examiner and So Far Magazine. He was also the curator for Brandon Tay’s inaugural solo exhibition, Form and Agency, at Yeo Workshop.
